Unlock the Power of Search in ProLaw Workspace: Mastering Querying

Tired of sifting through endless lists to find the exact information you need? We’ve got good news! Within the Matters, Contacts, and Time sections, a powerful little tool awaits: querying. This unassuming option is your key to creating highly specific searches with multiple conditions, connected by logical operators like “and” or “or.” Say goodbye to tedious scrolling and hello to pinpoint accuracy!

What’s New (and Improved!)

For those who’ve been with us for a while, you might recall an issue in a previous release where professionals with the “Portal User Only” setting could access all records matching a query, even in the Matters and Contacts sections. We’re happy to announce that this has been resolved. Now, querying is appropriately hidden from the Matters and Contacts pages for these professionals, ensuring the right level of access.

Ready to Dive In? Here’s How to Craft Your Perfect Query:

Locate Querying: Navigate to the Matters, Contacts, or Time section where you want to perform your search. You’ll find querying prominently displayed. Give it a click!

The query creation area will slide into view, ready for your instructions.

Building Your First Condition: To start your search, click the inviting [Add new condition] button. Alternatively, you can also click the Add Condition button (it looks like a plus sign: ). A dropdown menu brimming with potential conditions will appear.

Exploring Deeper Options: Notice those little greater-than symbols (>) next to some conditions? These are your gateway to even more specific criteria! Simply hover your mouse pointer over a condition with this symbol. For instance, hovering over General might reveal a submenu with options like Area of Law, Initials, and Matter Type.

Refining Your Criteria: Let’s say you select Area of Law. A field will pop up, ready for you to input your desired value. But that’s not all! You’ll also see a “starts with” option. Click it!

A dropdown menu will appear, offering a range of operators to fine-tune your condition. Choose from options like contains, is equal to, and many more to match your specific needs.

Entering Your Target Value: Now, in the field provided, type in the value you’re searching for. For example, if you selected “Area of Law” and “contains,” you might type “Real Estate.”

Adding Complexity with Multiple Conditions: The real power of querying lies in its ability to combine multiple conditions. Want to find all Real Estate matters that also started this year? Simply click [Add new condition] or Add Condition again and repeat steps 2-5.

Connecting Your Conditions: “And” vs. “Or”: By default, the system assumes you want records that meet all of your specified conditions. This is indicated by the statement: “Select records where all of the following apply.”

But what if you want records that meet any of your conditions? No problem! Just click the word “all.” A dropdown menu will appear with your operator choices.

Select any from the dropdown, and your conditions will now be connected by an “or” operator.

Time to See the Results! Once you’ve added all the conditions you need and chosen your operators, the moment of truth has arrived. Click the Run button.

And there you have it! The system will display only the records that precisely match the criteria you’ve defined.

querying is your secret weapon for efficient information retrieval. Experiment with different conditions and operators to unlock its full potential and streamline your workflow. Happy querying!
