Streamlining Your Workflow: Mastering Document Management in ProLaw®

April 18, 2025

In the fast-paced world of legal practice, efficient document management is paramount. ProLaw® offers a suite of features designed to help you keep your documents organized, accessible, and secure.

Check In/Out: Ensuring Document Integrity

Need to work on a document outside the office where you might not be connected? The Check document In/Out feature creates a local copy in your designated directory, allowing you to work offline. While a document is checked out, other users are prevented from making edits. Checking back in moves the updated file back to the network, automatically overwriting the older version.

Make New Version: Tracking Document Evolution

The Make new version feature keeps a clear history of document revisions. When selected, the original document is automatically renamed to indicate its initial status (e.g., "Document1.docx" becomes "Document1_1.docx"). The new version receives the next sequential number ("Document1_2.docx").

Note: For third-party DMS users (like Interwoven), version control is handled within that system, so "Make new version" will be disabled in ProLaw®.

Quick Actions

  • Print: Print the selected document without opening it first.
  • Save document externally: Save a copy to any directory without altering the original.
  • PDF copy: Creates a PDF version of your selected document as a child document within ProLaw®, keeping all related versions neatly organized.
